Entranced by food, sauteed by humidity

Date: Samedi, 24 Mai
Time: sleepy late morning
Locale: New Orleans, LA
Lodging: St. Vincent’s Guesthouse
Weather: muggy, abets delusions of streetcar dings and a guy in a wife beater

So, last night…..I had, hands down, the best meal of my life. We went to Commander’s Palace, a fabulous, apparently Creole, restaurant in the Garden District. (I was noticing at breakfast, that since arriving here yesterday, every menu I’ve seen refers to both “Cajun” and “Creole” cuisine – and much as most of us wouldn’t really think of “Country” without “Western”, I look at “Cajun” and “Creole” and similarly conclude I have no clue of the distinction between the two. Luckily, I have til next Wednesday to figure that out.)

…..doh! We interrupt this programming to actually go out and see the town. Apparently I need to write these missives a little faster in order not to be left behind by the big guy. Stay tuned…

Ah, Commander's...never been there or Brennan's. Can check off Galatoire's, Delmonico, Arnaud's, Emeril's in the Warehouse district and of course Cafe du Monde and Pat O's. Stick to Sazeracs. No Hurricanes unless you enjoy being hung over.

Beth, go to Brennan's for brunch if you can. It was a great experience though it can burn a hole in your pocket (~ $60/ person). :o The banana foster is out of this world.
